Save the Date! OCC Joint Regional Meeting
Hello OCC Community!
Our OCC-CCCO executive would like to encourage you to SAVE THE DATE of Monday December 3rd for this year’s Joint Regional Meeting. This fall our JRM will be held at Colleges Ontario in Toronto (20 Bay Street, Suite 1600, Toronto)
Further registration details will be forthcoming, but we are looking forward to connecting with colleagues at our annual JRM.
We are also very pleased to share with you that
Jamie Warren and Laraine Halewill be facilitating the PD on
“Adjusting Our Cultural Lens:
Practicing Indigenous Cultural Safety”
at the Joint Regional Meeting
(Elder Elaine Berwald – White Northern Lights Woman, Aniishnaabe, Mi’Kmaq, Métis)
Workshop Description
This workshop aims to support counsellors to increase their individual self-awareness for the purposes of creating culturally safe spaces for First Nations, Métis, & Inuit post-secondary students. Facilitators will introduce basic concepts of cultural safety and take a trauma-informed approach to highlighting the ongoing impacts of historical and contemporary colonization on Turtle Island (North America). Embedded with Indigenous ways of knowing, participants will be encouraged to reflect on their roles and responsibilities as healthcare professionals and as Canadians in the reconciliation process.
The JRM will be a wonderful opportunity to meet other counsellors and learn from an amazing PD.
Further information and registration details are to follow and registration will open at the end of OCTOBER, in the meanwhile the OCC Executive hopes that you will be able to join us, so please SAVE THE DATE!
Kind regards,
Lavlet Forde, MA. RP.
